Written by AnyTube’s developer, Fairlight Apps, using the public sources linked below. This is a feature-selection guide, not an independent speed, reliability or accessibility test. Competitor features and purchase terms can change. No app is ranked as the universal winner.
Start with the trip you actually make
For a station-to-station Tube commute, look for a readable map, useful saved journeys and status you can check before leaving. For an address-to-address trip involving buses, rail, walking or cycling, compare a broader planner. If step-free access matters, make it an explicit requirement rather than inferring it from a station symbol. These are our selection criteria, not measured rankings.
AnyTube: a focused London Tube companion
AnyTube 1.2 combines its Tube map, live TfL journey requests, line status and saved commute alerts. Two saved journeys are free. Its core map, station search and supported Tube-route fallback remain available without a connection; fresh status and live multi-mode results do not. Optional Pro adds unlimited saved trips, no ads and additional alert controls. Choose it when you want those Tube tasks together. It does not sell your travel ticket, and the stored fallback is not an accessibility certification. See the free and Pro distinction before deciding whether an upgrade is useful.
Citymapper: compare a wider mix of transport
Citymapper’s developer-provided App Store description covers public transport alongside walking, cycling, shared bikes and other mobility options, with step-by-step navigation, saved places and line alerts. It also lists offline access to the TfL map. Consider it for trips that go beyond Tube stations or for travel in other supported cities. Offline map access is not unique to AnyTube, and it should not be mistaken for a freshly checked journey. Review the current edition and purchase screen rather than assuming an old feature or price comparison still applies.
TfL Go: official London travel and access information
TfL Go’s current App Store listing describes multiple transport modes, live arrivals and disruption information, step-free journey options and routes avoiding stairs or escalators. It also supports Oyster and contactless account management. It is a relevant starting point when official network information, access requirements or payment management are central to your trip. AnyTube is independent of TfL, and an AnyTube offline route does not replace current station or lift information. Check the exact journey and access options you need before travelling.
Mapway Tube Map: a map-led planner with extra travel details
Mapway’s Tube Map feature page lists the official TfL map, status, departure boards and journeys involving stations, postcodes and points of interest. It describes offline routes based on scheduled trains, not current conditions. First and last train information and carriage-exit guidance are listed as Premium features. Consider it if those details matter to you; inspect the current product and plan before paying. A scheduled offline option in any app still needs a fresh check when you reconnect.
Compare one real journey before choosing an upgrade
Use the same origin, destination and intended time in the apps you are evaluating. Read the legs and changes, not just a headline duration. Check whether the result covers the final walk and your access needs, and whether it is live or stored. Try the free features first where available. For AnyTube, the website is not a checkout: Apple shows the available Pro plans, local price and any trial eligibility in the app before confirmation. Existing customers should check purchase restoration before buying again.
Keep the offline boundary clear
A stored map or route can help you keep your bearings, but cannot prove that a line, entrance or lift is operating now. Follow station signs, announcements and staff advice when conditions differ from a saved plan. Read what AnyTube keeps offline and the reconnection checklist for the next check to make.
